It was the type of cancer that could not be treated—he was given no more than six months to live. I was heartbroken because I had always looked up to my grandfather as someone who was invincible. It was like finding out Santa Claus did not exist, except only worse. As a result of his cancer, my grandfather could no longer go out as often as he would like. He spent most of his time inside the house where it was warm. I continued to go to see my grandparents as much as I could. It pained me to see my grandfather in such an appalling state. My grandfather noticed how I felt about his condition and he decided to do something about it. He suddenly announced that he would take me away on a week-long trip into the countryside in order to give me advice on how to live my life. I was ecstatic at hearing this news; however, a small part of me wondered if this was necessarily the best thing for him in his current condition. Nevertheless, plans were made and permission was obtained from my parents before we set out on our journey. Once we arrived at our destination, we decided to take a short nap because of how tired we were. Once we were refreshed, my grandfather suggested that we go on a trek into the wilderness. Although I had reservations about this idea, I agreed to go if as long as we turned back in case my grandfather got into trouble. Only a short way into the woods, my grandfather said that he would like to talk with me about his life and how I could avoid the same mistakes that he made. I was shocked to discover that my grandfather had slid down a rocky slope when he was in his teens. His advice to me was that I always thought about an action before I actually did it. However, this was not the piece of advice that stuck in my mind the most; it was that I need to be bold when going through
